Does anyone have experience with 1000 watt MH? I am in the initial planning stages for a large tank, and am thinking that if I can get 1000 watters to spread about 30" to 33" square, it would give me better front-to-rear depth, with about the same intensity at depth as 400 watters on 24" square.

But the cost of elctricity and bulbs would probably be cheaper to go with more 400 watters in the long run-Guru

Spread is completely dependenton the reflectors being used, and the height of the bulbs over both the water's suraface, and the tank bottom.

hi.
That's right. Put a fisheye lense on the bottom of a 175W MH, and you will get a 8 feet spread at 4 inch from the lense!

Thanks for the replies.

Useing normally available reflector material, do you think such a setup get the spread with the lights no more than 2 feet above the tank?
