Another lesson 3 question

Howdy....

I'm lookng at the pdf, and I can't find anywhere that specifically says to drill and rout the the holes in the base front. These are the 2 7/8" holes slightly offset from the center of the 2.5"X 7" piece. I'm pretty sure we're supposed to do this, and the piece is in the final picture. It does say to drill the "bottom front" but I'm missing anything else about this piece.

Also, is there anyway we can change the size of the base bottom to fit inside our stands? I was thinking of more like 81/2 or 9" X 12" instead of 12" by 12"

I routed out the 2 holes in the base front where we were told to drill. I'm blaming Eboman if its not right. ; )
