Advice on refugium

I have a 10g nano reef and run a Skilter 250. Most nano reefer's don't use skimmers, so I have a idea and wanted some expert advice on this. I was thinking about removing the skimmer from my skilter and adding some crushed coral, LR and macroAlgae. I am having a good bit of trouble with red slime algae and thought this might help. I know it want be very large(4 1/2X5x9inches). This would grow a good bit of macroalgae and pod's and such. Thanks.
