DIY Glass Aquarium

Hi, i'm thinking of building up my self a glass aquarium.

Dimensions: 48"x20"x20"

My question is: Do i put the front, back and sides on top of the bottom glass (very popular design here in europe at least in the past years), or do i glue them to the sides of the bottom glass? In this last cenario, should i put the bottom glass in full contact with the "floor" or should i elevate him a bit? If so, how much?
