See pic below. This is a snap on fitting. The one pictured here is snapped onto a piece of 1- 1/2" extruded tube.

I think you could make then outta pvc pipe, but I rather buy them in bulk.

If I have to fab my bracket, I'm thinking this one would work in sumps or in tanks with hoods. The idea is to have a slot in one of the two top pieces, aligned with a threaded hole in the other. This way the bracket could be mounted on tanks with bracing around the top. The float switch side could be flipped and used for in sump or above tank as well.

Looks pretty simple, eh?
