I am in the process of setting up my new tank and need help. I had a 1" drain drilled into the upper back left corner of the tank and a 3/4" return drilled into the upper back right corner. To ensure the drain flows smoothly, is it true that I should put a 'T' fitting outside the back of the tank, with one arm up into the air?

Yeah, it's kind of like making a durso standpipe outside the tank. you cap the top of the T and drill a hole for the air. Then you put a 90 in the tank pointing down.
