Painting Acrylic Tanks

Hi all,I'm wondering which would be best for painting the background on an acrylic tank.Acrylic latex water base,or enamel oil base?Will either one hurt or melt the acrylic.Or is all this just much adoo about nothing?

I've had the best luck using a spar enamel, available at most hardware stores. I'd shy away from anything that stinks *too* much as this is usually a sign of some sort of solvent in the paint and these are generally not good for polished acrylic.
