Im looking for some info on flow rates through 1" and 1.25" bulkheads. I want to try and match my drain with my return. Im using a Mag 9.5 as a return pump for my 29G.

well about 600-650 in a 1"

and about 800-900 in a 1.5"

I would dial that bad boy down unless you have some elaborate plumbing that will fix the problem.....

how much head pressure are you dealing with?

I moving vertical a max of 5 feet. I think I will split the return with a SCWD and empty to the tank via a dual locline. I used the head calculator and i think i will be getting around 650gph at the tank returns. So maybe the 1" will be ok? Or should I go for the 1 1/4" and be safe? I could always add a ball valve on the return line. How much back pressure can the mag pumps handle?

Just make sure the return plumbing is upsized to 1" or more. The 3/4" outlet is misleading. If you use it you will get very reduced performanceu from the Mag 9.

Thanx glaze for the input. Since this post, I have changed my design. I am going with the mag 7 and a single 3/4" return. I am also looking into a CL with a MAK 4 (maybe). I think the mag9 was going to put too much flow through the sump/fuge to allow it to be effective. I just need to find a good tank.. Im thinking 40B with a 29G sump/fuge.
