i'm looking at building a air powered skimmer as a pet project, it will be connected eather by it self or as a second skimmer on my combined tanks
tanks sizes
display tanks
120 + 90
60 gal sump refug
plus 30 gal refug

this is what i have so far

the main body is 60"x4"

any one have any ideas ?

Only question I have is how do you get rid of the skimmate?

top cup is removeable

how now thats a good question i think i have the answer

one sec

2" slip/slip coupler should work

one thing i know for sure is the water out flow pipe needs to go a wee bit lower

You better make the air stone removeable so you can clean it.

I think I heard they clog up.

That is all I know....

:) I can't say much about it i only know a little about the waterpump ones but i think it looks like it would work fine and looks cool after you get it up and runing send me the pics of it and the DIY plans :D

I built a 4 ft one like that before. It had an ABS body with pvcs for the smaller pipes. It worked well and I think the cost was only around $50. I had 2 6" limewood diffusers. It worked well but was not very attractive. Since it sat in my living room I eventually changed over to a skimmer than sat in my sump. Worked great though. Good luck.
