RO/DI run off

I just set up my ro/di unit and it is making fresh water.
The waste water is really flowing, but the ro/di water takes 2 hours to fill five gallons. Is this normal? Also what should I do with the was water? Can I drink it?

You need to check the specifications for your model of Ro/di unit.

They all make different amounts of water, usually listed as a percentage of good versus waste water.

Most people say not to drink the waste water because it has a higher concentration of the bad things in your water. Its fine to use for watering plants or grass or washing stuff with though....

That's 60 gallons per day. What is your membrane rated for? Sounds normal to me.

In the summer I direct the waste water into my pool. In winter it goes down the drain.

I am not sure but I think you can hook the auto top off valve to the supply line of the ro/di unit can't you?

at least that's the way I am going to try doing it as soon as I can buy the valve

Check out my thread on water storeage unit. You get an electric float valve the r/o and a soleinod to control city water.

If you connect your RO output to a float valve it will close the output when the water reached the height of the float valve.

My RO unit has an "auto shut off". When the float valve shuts off the RO unit output this will create backpressure which triggers the auto-shut-off therefore the RO unit will not produce water nor waste water/ in other words it will shut off/stop the RO unit.
