i am trying to do a tank that runs off of 1 pump and then i am going to put the cure tanks in side the shelf they will run off of the filters i am useing right now on my 14 gal. hex nano and then i am going to try to DIY my own skimmer that will run off the same pump I will have some help on it from a guy that runs a pet shop here in town he has been testing alot of ways to do it and if it is good i will post the plans for it

Interesting concept. Some things to think about. Water will seat its own level. You will have to make sure the lowers container can hold all of the drainage. With the sump draining back to the tank I think you will have a bubble problem. If it were me I would put the sump as the lowest container. Drain from the tank to small tank one the to small tank two them to sump. Still one pump. This way you can make the sump large enough to handle all of the drain water.

that sound like a good ideal i will have to try it or ask my buddy about how to set all that up. I will post it if i try to do it

i have put this tank on hold for some time but this is the new blue print for the tank it will run off 3 pumps . I have done a little but no work on it my wife thinks i am putong to much money into my hobby.

at this point its jsut a brain exercise :)

why three pumps how are they tied into the whole system

there will be one pump to go from the tank to the skimmer and then one to go to the live sand and rock filter and then one from filter to tank they all will run at 315 GPH

you are much better of using gravity and one piump

you will not get three pumps that have the EXACT same out put, there will be small diffrences that over time may cause problems


ok maybe two pumps

a mini jet for the skimmer ... tank > skimmer > tank

gravity for tank to lr then pump back to tank

also you will be paying for less electricity with less pumps ...
