Not reef related but I am looking for small DC brushless motors. Perferably submersible. The sizes I need are 1/2 hp and less. If someone knows of an online supplier please let me know.

Thanks

There are a lot of DC brushless motor with half horse or less, but almost all of them are not submersible.

If you want low voltage (48VDC or less), check out the various motorized bicycle and scooter sites.

Cool thanks, I'll check that out. I have been doing lots of digging, but not finding exactly what I need.

I want to make some thrusters for a homemade ROV. I've seen some people use pumps, but I want to make real thrusters. They will need to be in an oil filled housing.

I kind of suspected that application, knowing your background, but I gave you the benefit of doubt before locking the thread.... you should say it is for a high power wave maker or somthing... ;)

1/2 horse seem to be a bit too powerful for a home-ROV.

There are various ROV-part company out there that specialized in these submerical motor. A few of them are hydraulic motor, for example. I think one of these company is www.innerspace.com. There are other options, such as using one of the various seadoo's knock off out there, but they are brushed, I think.

I actually need about 1/4 HP. I'm looking for 5 lbs of thrust per unit. These will be for the horizontal thrusters. I'm still figuring what I need for the vertical thrusters. If what I am thinking works they could be downsized for prop type tank pumps aka tunze type pumps.
