i got a 29 gallon glass tank that is cracked on both ends. i plan to use as my sump refugium on my 75 gallon and i was thinking i could buy new glass and smear silicon on the new glass and silicon the seams to make it all water tight. What do you guys think about trying this is it worth the time and money? Please any comments and/or opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Im thinking not a good idea fwiw. From looking at a local ad paper, you can fin 29 gallons often for little money. Just thinking what kind of shape you will be in if you get a failure down the road.

I've done it with tanks that had the bottom cracked. It works. However, glass itself can be expensive.

if you can get the glass for free, go for it. Make sure the new ends are sealed completely around the new panes.

Make sure you use real aquarium silicone, not stuff from the hardware store.

He can use the stuff from the hardware store as long as it's 100% pure silicone with nothing else (mold/mildew inhibitors, for instance) added to it. Lots cheaper from the hardware store, plus it fits in that squeezy thing the name of which I can't remember.
