Hello Everyone,

I have been shopping around for RO/DI systems and am narrowing them down (although I am interested in hearing if anyone knows any great deals that can handle well water). What I am asking for help for is a solid system that I can use my filtering system for in regards to pumping water to/from tank (and future tanks). Right now, I have a 75 gallon reef tank and want to run some lines for auto top off and ideally a water change system where I can have a drain line then a line to pump salt water back to aquarium. Eventually, I want to be able to do that with another tank or two in separate rooms of my house. I am good at plumbing and can run pipes, etc.. but wonder how big a pump I will need, should I use a big trash can size reseviour, pitfalls I need to look out for, any thing I may need, and overall some guidence because I have know idea what I am in for. Any help or wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

For these occusional tasks, it is usually not necessary that you hard plumb the pipe. Even if you have a good reason to do that, which in some way will limit your flexibility, you don't need a big pump for the job since you only need to do it infrequently. Maybe a decent powerhead is sufficient, like a Mag 7 or something similar, depends on the head pressure and the size of your plumbing.

IMHO, just use a trash can like rubbermaid, and put in a powerhead. Cheap and flexible. If you want to drain out the tank, just use a garden hose with a cheap powerhead and an adoptor for the hose thread. Your imagination is the limit.
