I did 2 also and also waited a full day for it to dry.

I did it while the tank was running also.. just taped off everything and even taped off the top of the tank just in case.

I used Krylon "flat black" . It dries in about 5 minutes.

and one would be enough. Just wipe the glass down first ( make sure there are no oils on the glass). If there are any oils under the paint , it will get loose at thoes spots.

PS: even the simi-gloss will work fine. I just fine that the "flat black" dosent run.

I've done this no less than 20 times between fresh and marine tanks
DO NOT sand the glass. It will make it weak (probably not such an issue on a tank this size. However it wont help.
Krylon, 2 coats. 20 min. dry between coats
Drying time about 2 hours, in this weather
I suggest that if you are going to go with a light color, to overspray the color with flat black. Or chrome then flat black:splitspin:splitspin.

I did Trasparent green Chrome and flat back on the back of a african cichlid tank once . It looked pretty sick.
You can get really cool colors at the hobby store. The kind you paint remote control cars with.

Try to find some sites that you can see what people do to fw tanks. pretty cool stuff.

is krylon spray paint adequate though or just need regular kind of paint?

it's fine, just tape off the top of the tank, and the part that you don't want painted. and air the room out b4 you untape it , so you don't get any chemicals in the tank to harm your livestock.
