i stopped at home depot today and picked up a 1 1/4 setup for my skimmer to do this mod http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/diy-gate-valve-mod-97036.html?highlight=gate+valve+mod on my euroreef and what a difference.it took me literally 10 min to cut it up and install.they didnt have that valve in home depot so i used a ball valve but i must say it is so easy to dial it in to produce some amazing skimate.im happy and if you want to do an easy mod to your skimmer and you are tired of adjusting your pipe i recommend this mod

I tried to make it but my stupid PVC pipes and I bought a ball valve, but for some reason when I put it on- water just keeps filling into the skimmer cup.

I got the EuroReef ES5-2.

home depot or lowes never has gate valves...you gonna have to order one ...
this site has the full kit..first need to figure what size plubing you need...its a little more expensive than just ordering a gate valve and going to HD for some pvc tubing...but a gate valve is about $20 already...

sal u need to open the valve all the way with skimmer off.then turn skimmer on and adjust the valve by closeing it slowly.aznt that might be the reason why water is flowing in.if its closed to far the water will flow in fast.open the valve all the way before you turn your skimmer on.
