Does anyone know how to color the glass on the back of a tank to give fish and corals in the tank more pop...Or is there a separate piece of glass or some other material I can place directly into the tank?

It needs to be done after setup, since its already up and running...I was thinking of just spray painting the back glass but not sure if it would give the desired effect I've seen in the tank threads on mr....

you either paint the outside back of the tank or place a back drop behind the glass. Paint is more consistent, while a backdrop allows for change if desired. A backdrop however can get frustrating if you get salt creep or runs between it and the glass, or if it shifts. Your choice.

It is very inadvisable to spray paint the back glass once a tank is set up. The overspray will most likely wipe out everything that is in the tank.

If you can access the rear of the tank you can use a small roller to put on the paint..again since it is already full, I would stick to a water based paint. If you use a few coats, it should be fine and won't affect your tank either.

I sprayed my tank when it was setup.. I just maked off the top of the tank with like 4 layers of masking tape.

Mine is a dark blue but if you really want things to pop.. do it black

A black background is very cool. You could use the plastic backgrounds as well - if you use a bit of oil to adhere it to the back and use a credit card or the like to press out the bubbles, it should guard against salt creep.

I think I am just going to remove the filter, power heads etc cover the tank with blue tape and a plastic bag and just spray paint it, like a punk putting up his tag in the middle of the night....woohooo wish me luck lol :birthday:
