When I said that your setup could work I mean't that the idea of it would work. My setup is not exactly the same as yours. On mine, water is delivered from my overflow to the scrubber which is over two baffles. On one side I have a skimmer and on the other I have live rocks.

ok so i drilled one for one inch bulk head for the return and the drop the drop is gravity fed. Painted the back of the tank black. Ok so the first pvc coming out of the drop is a one inch pvc pipe that is about 4inches that connects to a one inch T so that air can force the water down then another piece of 1 in pvc connected to a valve. This is so i can control the flow or stop the water when i am doing some work in the sump. Then we have another one inch pvc pipe about 4 inchs with a 1 inch slip thread elbow that is connected to a union valve so i can take out the pipe and clean it if the algae gets in the pipe and stops the flow.
