So I'm completely frustrated with Home Depot falling short (for me) on what they have available.
I'm in Queens and am looking for a good Hardware and/or Plumbing supply store for less common supplies for my DIY's. I will travel to any of the Boroughs if it's worth it.
Here are some examples of what I'm looking for - plastic insert fitting (hosebarb) x mpt in uncommon sizes (5/8x3/4, 1/2x7/8, etc), Die and Tap sets that go 1/2 - 1 inch that match the threads on pvc joints (the norm seems to go up to 1/2 only), PVC sealants (for leaks) that actually work. Maybe even some of the aquarium or plumbing supplies we use all the time for our tanks.
Our medium is generally glass, acrylic, pvc and rubber, but I can't find many stores for these things in the city.
I was building a Sulfur Denitrifier, and I had to work pvc in unusual ways, but couldn't readily find the tools or parts I needed in any local store (like home depot). A place where I could actually touch the supplies and tools to make sure the sizes matched. The Denitrifier works well, but the leaks are out of control cause everything I worked was off a size or 2. This is only one case I ran into.
Also I'm hoping for some experienced guys at these kind of stores who would know what I'm looking for (or catch my blunders). Things like that.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
