I have an in-wall 180. I have an extra eheim 1260 pump laying around and I was thinking of using it for a closed loop over one side of the tank with 2 outlets for more flow. The pump would sit on a shelf on the same level as the bottom of the tank so the return wouldn"t have to travel too far. Would this work?

Should work fine. You can always test it with clear vynil tubing before hard-plumbing with PVC. The key is making an inlet that doesn't turn into a "fish sucker-upper". I think I remember someone on RC just using a length of PVC that was drilled in multiple locations to disperse the vacuum effect.

This is a great Idea, I will make mine internal though, I'll drill the holes on the 90 gal and use a mag drive 9.5
