Anybody here use a Hanna photometer to measure phosphates ? I've used a Hanna checker and wasn't happy with it so thinking about getting one of these for my Bday r they accurate and easy to use ? I want to be able to be certain that my water I'm using is good no more guessing

The Hannah phos meter is a bit of a pain. I use that and the Alk checker too. The Alkone is much easier. It is very accurate though.

How is it a pain?? I use it twice a week and find it to be the easiest instrument to use.

Maybe i am using something different but,you calibrate it, then you add the powder and try to dissolve it before the thing times out and shuts off (which happens a lot) and then you wait 3 minutes for it to give you a reading. IDK, the alk one is much easier to me.

Hope this helps.
1- fill both veils with dt water, add packet of reagent into 1 and gently keep stirring till you don't see any powder floating, the longer you stir the better the reading.
2- turn meter on wait till C1 shows up on display
3-put the veil without reagent into tester and press button wait for C2 to show on display.
4-put veil with reagent into tester. You can do 2 test here A-quick reading, and B-slow reading.
A-quick reading press and release button,
B press and hold button till timer displays. I do both and take 3 readings each.
You must zero out between tests with the veil without reagent

That is the newer version of the meter being talked about. either way richie's suggestion is a good one. I do the same however, it seems that some have a problem dissolving the powder. I swirl the solution in a circular motion and don't have a problem dissolving the powder. When testing I do two tests at a time. Good meter in my opinion and easy to use.

I find mine a bit fiddly to use as the test vials need to be SUPER clean to get an accurate reading. You do not want to wait very long after adding the powder to measure the test vial as the meter is calibrated to read the reaction after 3 minutes--if you wait much longer you will get a false high reading ( longer reaction time). Also, there is a +/- accuracy of .03 ppm (.o4 with the cheaper model) which most folks don't realize which means you can't hang on any number you get as a result----.06 could be closer to .03 or .09. .01 could really be .04. etc.

I have not used them, but I'm told that both the Elos and Detec titration kits yield similar results in terms of accuracy and I think that is the route I would go if I didn't already own a meter. That said, the Hanna meter is vast improvement over any of the other titration kits out there.
