Hi, this is my first time posting on the site. So if this is not allowed or in the wrong place, please don't go crazy.

So I've owned 2 of these for approx. 6 months and have to say that it's a MUST for any reefers with little to no budget. Sure, people say "you get what you pay for", but they couldn't be more wrong in this case.

Let's break it down to the Pros and Cons of our money saving wavemaker.

PROS:

1. Price: Let?s talk about price since it?s the first thing everyone looks when they go out shopping. I paid one @ $78 dollars shipped and a second one much cheaper since the price has lowered when they came out the newer models.

2. Performance: I have one in a 48 x 19 x 30 , 110 gallon high tank. Considering just one of these full blast is almost too much, I had to buy an adjustable AC power adapter just to reduce its power. I had to because I wanted one on each end. Seriously, these will provide ?strong flow? like that of an ecotec. They're rated @ around 3,400 gal/hr, which is a lot of water.

3. Modes: Various modes give reefers a variety of options to choose from. Each pump can be controlled independent. You can have High Flow, Low Flow, Pulse, etc. Mine are always set on the ?Else? since I like the randomness.

4. Construction: Considering that it?s MADE IN CHINA, the pump itself seems very solid and sturdy like most wavemaker?.if not any better.

5. Noise: There is very little to no noise associated with these guys, unless you have the tank in an ultra-quiet room. They push the same amount of water as any other wavemaker and perform just as well.

6. Controllability: This is very important to me as I am in the process of connecting them with my Apex Controllers! All you have to buy is wire called ?Jebao/speedwave cable? 30$ shipped from reefangel. I?m not going too much detail but you can either buy the cable or make them your own, which ultimately, will transform our cheap Jebao into an expensive ecotec wavemaker.

CONS:
1. Noise: Going back to this, I would point out that they need a break in period. Some can last for more than a week. But you?ll save a lot of money in the long run.

2. Motor: Yeah, they aren?t MP40 so the motor sits on the inside of the tank. So the motor is more vulnerable to damages.

3. No middle speed: As I have mentioned, you?ll need to buy an AC power adapter if you want to reduce the flow. The manufacture designs with only 2 setting, which is full and low. There is no ?in-betweens?.

4. Independently Operated: Again as I have mentioned previously, these pumps operate independently??NOT ANYMORE with the new models or when you have it connected to your apex system!!! Hahaha.

CONCLUSIONS

So, I can?t say this for everyone. I can only say this based on my own experience with the Jebao. It?s like your tanks, everyone has different parameters and all their reefs are thriving. So, this pump may work for me but not for you. Of course, these ARE NOT MP40s or MP10000x (future model J). Also, I highly doubt that there?s another brand of wavemaker with such similar performance and output in the same price range.

The creation Jebao was not in the market to rip people off, its intended purpose was to give the blue collar workers the opportunity to have the quality of an MP40s without selling their house. Believe me when I say that you?ll get the most BANG for your BUCKS.

One final thought, I would like to recommend that you buy your Jebao from fish street website. There are a number of reasons to do so. First, I find them to be the cheapest out of all the other online stores. Second, their customer support is pretty good, based on my experience. Third, they have wareshouses in the UK, US, and even Australia! Finally, they are a dependable company when there?s a problem the any of their products. I guess you could say that they are the people behind the invention/distribution of the Jebao. Without them, many of our reefs wouldn?t be able to enjoy the waves. ;)
