just picked up a hydra 26 and the AI controller I also have a reef keeper,and was wondering what people's thoughts where on which controller would be better for controlling the light?

I see no reason why to spend the extra $80 for the ALC module in order to control your Hydra through the RK. The AI controller separates all the channels for programming and has enough event points that you would probably not utilize it all.
AI lights are true ramping when utilized with their controller, ie: full controllability. If you had an Acan or Reefbreeder/Evergrow fixture where IMO it's not true ramping and only set points for percentages then I can see going with an ALC with the RK.

I see your logic pecan. So far I am quite satisfied with the AI controller. I prolly should of bought the director so I can sit on the couch with my laptop and tinker instead of the short wired controller though lol
