Most will tell you to have it drilled (be sure you know what you are doing if you try it yourself!!).
I ran an overflow box for years, never had an issue with it. To me it is the same difference except the pipes run outside of the tank. If set up properly they work fine and IMO are way easier to clean than internal overflows.

You clean overflows? Maybe I should check what's in there after 6 years....

lol yea ming it gets pretty nasty in there! I agree with Kathy overflow box is def easier to clean or access if you need to..it's also possible to do it while the tank is full unlike RR if you need to for some reason clean out your drain pipe like if a fish get's stuck in there etc. Make sure your glass is not tempered and you know what you are doing..worst case scenario I got a RR 72 bow for sale. LOL =]

I figure there would be mostly just sponges growing in the overflow box.. and some detritus on the bottom. Tank will be coming down soon for the upgrade anyways and I'll see it then. Considering my tank has done good this long without cleaning the overflow box, I don't know if its really a necessity! :lol2:

I am using a glass holes overflow box....really slim and quiet. It's nice if you are placing the tank along the back wall where you won't notice the drain and return pipe as much.

Otherwise check to see if you can drill the bottom of the tank so you can hide the return and drain pipes.

Here are two links:

or http://www.glass-holes.com/Dart-Overflow-Box-Complete-Kit-dartkit.htm

You can also ask Jeff (Customking) who is local to MR to make you one to your specs.

DRILL DRILL DRILL!!!! There is a risk to cracking your tank though. I was able to drill my tank on my first try of DIYing ANYTHING and it came out awesome. It saves SO much space, looks a lot cleaner, and less equipment on the tank rim

Go to glass-holes.com and they have kits there. I used that!
