Anyone have experience with these fish ? Are they generally hardy compared to oh lets say the yellow tang ? Are they easily adaptable to eating foods like pellets and algae sheets ? Would a 48" tank work with them ? Any experience from someone who's kept one is appreciated getting one on Tuesday.

Oh i actually have one in my 54 gal corner bow front tank and hes a bit mean to newcomers but in a day or two hes a ham and gets along well, as far as food they eat like hippo tangs they are true pigs and love flakes and anything else you can throw in and they are fun to watch so by all means go get it, you wont regret this fish at all.

Oh and they are quite hardy as well no special treatment or care required.

I've heard of people using them and the kole tangs to take out hair algae in the past to.

lol if that's true he'll have a good time in my tank when he comes

I once had a yellow tang got him around 3 inches and funny thing is back then he survived longer than any other fish I ever had in my 55g tank and this is with me being on vacation for 2 months and my dad feeding him sparingly. I came back he was doing fine no ich no nothing happy and swimming. Tangs are one of my fav. fish but I know most of them have their limitations to tank sizes.

One of the main issues that I have noticed with people who keep tangs, aside from the ich outbreaks and what not, is that people dont properly feed tangs. They're grazers more than anything and its really just better to provide them with a constant source of food alla romaine lettuce or nori clips than to give them predetermined meal times. Though there has been improvements since the time when I was 6 when most hobbyist were only feeding them brine shrimp. You should be fine though, just keep going to the asian markets for those unsalted sushi paper and keep your fish nice and fat.
