my frog fish has an air bubble in the stomach

I've this beautiful antennarius maculatus since almost one year.
very healty and hungry, after he has eaten 3 small ghost shrimps almost 3 weeks ago, started to swell.
now he has a pretty big bubble in his stomach and stays always upsidedown, trying to get rid of it.
Someone have had a similar experience?
any suggestion how I can help him?

Not much you can you ... You can risk it and try to hold him and/ or take the air out ... But you can hurt him instead of help him

Nope the two times I see. This happen they both died including the one on my Avatar =o(

any idea why how this air bubble was generated?
he was never taken out of the water..........

I did some searches because i thought it was an interesting dilemma. A few different discussions centered around over feeding. It seems its pretty common.. These fish have suicidal appetites and will keep eating which then causes gas to form in their stomach.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your fish and GL, hope he can work it out..

I had 3 of these guys and two pass the same way I did read something about over feeding .... But after that I only have him3 shrimps every 4 days and it happen again

Just going out on a limb here but I doubt in the wild they will ever have the opportunity to eat 3 consecutive shrimp or fish. Perhaps they need less food/more often.

Depending in the size you can feed them 3 or more but not every day ... If he's 5" you think one shrimp would be enough ??

Wouldn't one every other day be better? Just asking, you have much more experience w these fish then me. I would love to one day own one of these amazing creatures.

These are very temps mental so I think 2 Every other day is fine

anyway yesterday, despite the bubble gas, he managed to eat a small feeding fish. Apparently he is healty and still strong but this gas bubble impedes him to move around in a normal way.

My question is: cannot this gas be reabsorbed by the tissues?
I would expect so! Or shuold I try to suck it with a slender needle?
nobody have an experience?

You have a more chance of killing him than helping him if you notice he will suck Water in his mouth and disburse it from in back of his legs and that will propel him forward That's how he gets all inflated I love the angler but sometimes things like this happen and you have to let nature take it's course

well, if it is just a matter of a simple intervention, I would try. Like we currently do for human beings or ours dogs........

That's actually how some deep-sea predators were discovered: they floated to the surface.

Have you tried asking on Reef Central, in the predator forums, or the people who run lionfish lair? They might have some good "non-orthodox" advice to help the little guy out.

Geraud, I'm probably responsible for his desease.
I gave him 3 shrimps and he has eaten them all .
after three days, his stomach genereted the air bubble .
by the way, since I open this post I gave him couple of small feeding fishes and a shrimp and he his still alive but he cannot move normally because of his boyance.

good advice I'll try on Reef Central.
