Broken Fins on my Lionfish

Hello,
I just purchased a baby Black Volitan Lionfish, and he seems to be in good health but a couple of his beautiful fins look like their missing the tips! One was broken and partially hanging off when I first put him in the tank, that piece fell off sometime during the night last night but there are others that just look too short. One of my co-workers, who is also a saltwater fanatic, told me they won't grow back and that they'll be stunted forever!
This depresses me, and I would like to know if it's true or not?
Please help!

No, I haven't seen that to be true. There are some who might trim the broken rays off, but there is a big risk in getting stung so I personally don't recommend that to most folks. Watch for infection, though. Fish lose fin rays and they regrow all the time.

Yeah I've seen lions grow dorsal spines back on more than one occassion...one time after breaking one off in my hand...no worries.
