Hi,

i have two tiger barbs, one is female and one is male. Well they are when suing some sites information about sexing.

one of the fish is slightly paler than the other, but has a red nose.
Some sites tell me that they red nose indicates that it is a female, who wants the spawn, others say this is a male??

CONFUSED.COM!!!!!! lol

The barb with the red nose has become slightly distant from the other barb, but they do have some interaction from time to time.

here are some images of the fish:

ok, after a few more hours reading, I have decided the one with the red nose is the male and the other is the female.

The male is in full spawning display, head standing, displaying fins etc

but he seems to be off his food? is this normal, and should I place the two fish in a breeding trap?

or should I wait for signs from the female that she is up for spawning? if so what are these signs?

thanks

the easiest way to sex 'em is to just look at the belly area before feeding.

the female will be much more noticeably plump than the male, and if you use a flashlight, you should be able to actually see the eggs from the side.

she will also be fatter at the sides, when viewed from above
