I found a nice area in my basement that has the "mancave" on the other side.
I think I will be able to place my fish tank (120g SW FOWLR) in the wall (wall is approx 5" thick) and have the remaining 19 inches hang out on the other room (laundry room) I would like to know how people have accomplished this and what I need to do. I know I will be able to eliminate my canopy and stand. I can also use any lights since it doesn't matte since they will be hidden on the other side of the wall. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don't use sheet rock as it will start to absorb water... Use something else like cement board. Something that can resist water. Also make sure to sketch out ur plans before you do or buy anything.

make sure you have enough room height wise to work on the tank, ive worked on many tanks and ive realized that it is easier to work on any tank from the front and if there is plenty of room height wise

I recently did this (still in progress really)
I built a basic 2x4 stand behind existing wall, i didn't use wall studs to support the tank. You could very easily do that and have the tank flush with wall, but I have small kids and thought better of it. I basically created a shadow box picture frame with the display tank in middle.

I personally prefer to work on tank fom the front and need to get used to working from the new position. I didn't paint the rear of the tank for this reason. I don't have a canopy and will be hanging my new lights from. Beam in ceiling.....in this regard it makes it easier. If I were to o it gin the stand would be a few inches higher, im short an inch or two for my skimmer to it comfortably. Ill try and get pics up soon, but Irene effed up my basement......
