I am going to be setting up my water storage containers one for RO and one for SW.

I know I should keep the water at tank temperature and keep the water agitated.

Can I just use an airstone for agitation or do I need to keep a powerhead in each barrel?

I plan on keeping about 30 gallons of RO and the same of SW on hand at all times.

I don't use any powerheads in my RO water - just make sure it is covered.

For the SW - that should have a power head and a heater - especially if you are doing frequent water changes, it should match the temp in your DT. Keep this bin covered as well.

I agree you should need nothing in the RO water. I run a mag3 i had left over from about 10 years ago. It does enough movment in a 30 gallon. I have a tee on it and run 1 line in the storage container and then the other to the sump(not done yet) for water changes.

my concern with the saltwater bin has always been, that if i make a months worth of water and circulate it with lid off. Than water will evap. Which leaves me always tinkering with the water again before each water change. Which sord of defeats the purpose of the bin in which the idea is to be soooooo simple.

I wonder if just using a large airpump, where the airline goes through a silicon sealed hole in the container lid. And keep the lid on the container. This would aerate the water but keep evap water trapped inside. ?????

For the Brute can where I store my new SW, I keep the lid on but not pushed all the way closed. I am in there on a daily basis to get the water I use to thaw/rinse my frozen food, so there is some oxygen exchange taking place.
Does the water attempt to evaporate - yes but it forms droplets on the lid & drops back in. I can't say I've ever had an issue with the SG changing from shortly after I made the water up to the point of using it and I always check it again before doing a water change.

So no powerhead in the RO, what about keeping at temp for Topoff????
Nope, I don't worry about that at all. If you are using an ATO, you should not be adding so much water at once to really affect the temp of the overall tank.
Though that could be more of a concern in a smaller tank, but again, the amount of water added for multiple daily top-offs would be minimal as well. (can't think of the word I am looking for there!)

Nice top off bins there guys!! :)

A big thing no 1 mentioned is make sure the containers are SUPER CLEAN if they have any dirt in them you can get bacteria in your water and it will get all grimey. Also use a new or super clean powerhead in your mixing bin because the powerhead can also contaminate your water.
