Tapping your return works for sure. You will have to get some fittings to reduce the size probably (the reactor takes 1/2" in) depending on your return pump size, but yeah, it's a good way to do it. Probably the most efficient way too.

I have the BRS Reactor as well and use a lower throughput MJ pump...I think I have the 600. I was concerned about the heat output of an MJ1200 (20 watts) submersed in my sump where the temp is already 78-80 in winter. Whatever one I got pulls 6 or 7 watts at most.

I use the BRS GFO. It works well though there are some fines. Next time I might invest in the High Capacity GFO from BRS...supposedly it's harder and doesn't produce as many fines. But the regular stuff does work well. I don't measure phosphates but I don't seem to have much of an algae problem.

I have used Brs supply regular gfo and I am currently using the high capacity. Both products will give you zero phosphates when used with the BRS reactor. I like using the high capacity because i have to worry less about giving too much flow and having the gfo turn to dust. Just use less than the recommended amount because I noticed some of my corals do not like 0 phosphate readings
