I have one of those ebay 6 stage filters. Anyone know where to get a complete new filter setup, including resin, for a good price?
Links please.
TIA

I have a question about these units (figured there are so many RO/DI topics I'd just add to one instead of making another)

How hard are these to install? I always see others talking about taking from before certain filters, and using other filters for this and that and like Unresistible Blue said, removing horizontal DI and GAC after DI, and saw somewhere that suggested not getting the filter at all if it has the horizontal anythings....

They are easy to install. Most (not all, believe it or not) systems have a metal bracket that forms the "spine" of the system. The bracket has two or more keyhole slots in the back. You drive two screws into whatever you are mounting the system to, and hang it up.

Next you deal with three lengths of tubing: 1) feed (supply) water that extends froma faucet or your plumbing to the system; 2) waste water that extends from the system to a drain; and 3) the purified water that extends from your system to your sump or some other reservoir. Better systems use quick conenct fittings that are super easy to use.

This is different question than your first - and I'll give you a straight answer. This is the same answer I'd give you if our company did not sell RODI systems. First, some background about things you want/don't want in a system. On the lower quality systems, some things you may see:
  • Lower quality sediment filters (maybe 10 micron pore size rather than 5 or 1 micron)
  • Lower quality carbon blocks (large pore size, and low chlorine capacity [e.g., 2,000 gallons], phosphate leaching problems)
  • Use of GAC rather than a carbon block
  • Use of low quality GAC (phosphate leaching issue)
  • Low quality RO membrane (e.g., unspecified brand name, low or unspecified rejection rate)
  • Low GPD capacity RO membrane
  • No DI Stage
  • Horizontal DI stage
  • Low quality DI resin (low capacity resin or old resin that has reduced capacity)
  • No pressure gauge
  • Poor plumbing (high quality units are efficiently plumbed with a minimal amount of tubing neatly tucked from view)
  • Steel bracket rather than aluminum
  • Opaque housings
  • Extra, un-needed, or poorly configured components (GAC after the DI, horizontal DI)
I can't tell you how many times I've addressed this question - and it keeps coming up. The initial low cost of these systems, which appear to have lots of stages ("So they must be good") continues to attract folks -- most of which must be first time buyers.

We do a steady flow of business reworking/reconfiguring these systems for folks once they use the system for a while and start to really understand what it is they bought.

If you have any specific question - feel free to ask.
