How to properly clean a water barrel?

My friend got me an FDA food grade 30 gallon water barrel. Its brand new and made out of HDPE.
Can anyone tell me the proper way of cleaning it. Should I just rinse it with tap, then RO water? Dont want to add vinegar or other additives as I am not sure if it will have an adverse effect.

I have 2 food grade containers and when I do clean them I bleach/rinse well and air dry outdoors until there is no odor left. The bleach will not harm them.

You won't. It only needs to be in there for 10 minutes to kill off anything germs that might be in there
