I am leaving for a week long vacation on Saturday. Should I keep the house heater on, or the fish tank heater is sufficient to keep the temperature up? If I turn off the heat completely, it will fall to 50degrees, I have a 90 gallon with a 300w heater, is that enough?

How do you guys feed when you are on vacation, I only have 5/8 fish take pellet food, the other 3 only eat frozen. I will have a automatic feeder set for 2x a day, will those other 3 fish be ok if 7 days of no food?

So we are going to be getting some cold weather how do you know your house wont be in the 30s and freeze your pipes?

It needs to be much colder then 30 degrees for pipes to freeze.

Temp needs to penetrate walls and insolation and everything else. Remember how long power was out for Sandy? I think our house only got down to 50-55 in the week or two we were out of power.

To the OP. Maybe set the house temp at 60-65 degrees. Tell your wife you know how much she'll appreciate it when she comes home to a somewhat warm house.

My 55gallon tank with a 200 watt heater was not enough to maintain a 76.5 degree tank temo with a 64 degree household ambient temp. An additional heater was added to maintain. Do a trial run before you go on vacation or just toss in another heater to be safe.
