My new place is going to have a basement! (never had one) and I'm aware that basements have a mold problem if too much water is down there, actually its been suggested to run a dehumidifier,,if I put a tank down there wouldnt the dehumidifier basically suck the water right out the tank? DO other people have their tanks in basements? What do you do?

I have a dehumidifier and never thought of evaporation as a problem. I actually keep the dehumidifier next to my tank so it catches the moister before it spreads. The dehumidifier tank holds around 5 gallons of water and needs to be emptied every 2 or 3 days. Most of that water is not from the tank. I lose may 2 or 3 gallons a week on a 265 gallon open top.

If you are worried get a giant ATO container.

I also have my tank in the basement and I run a dehumidifier. I have mine near the tank as well and haven't notice any additional evap from the tank.

Tank is a 200g. I wouldn't be worried about mold, just take the necessary steps to make sure the air doesn't get to humid. Whether you do it with an exhaust fan or dehumidifier.

i have my sump in the basement and i run a dehumidifier about twice a week. plus the central air pulls most of the humidity out. i go through over 20gal of top off a week.
on the plus side no dry skin in winter.

I also have a 225 gallon in the basement. Tank has been set-up for just about a year so probably too early to tell, but during the summer & ran a dehumidifier and I also have one of these in the fish room. I think it helps alot.

Panasonic FV-04VE1 WhisperComfortTM Spot ERV Ceiling Insert Ventilator with Balanced Ventilation and Patent-Pending Capillary Core

During the winter the tank help keep the basement comfortable.

I have a 180g in wall w/ 40g fuge & 75g sump, I run a dehumidifer with built in pump that drains right out. The dehumidifer keeps the basement at around 45 humidity.

Without the dehumidifer I had the pipes sweating and lot of that saltwater/muggy/damp smell.
