I have a Jebao DP-4 Dosing Pump that is dosing Ca, Alk and Mg into my sump. The Mg and Ca dose into my return pump section, dripping from about 4-5" above the surface of the water. The Alk drips into the Protein Skimmer chamber, also 4-5" above the water, because there is more water movement in that chamber to more rapidly disperse the Alk, avoiding precipitation in the water, since the Alk doesnt effect the skimmers performance.
The problem I'm having is that the end of the standard 1/4" tube is clogging up with crusty white precipitation, to the point where, after 2-3 days, the tip can become almost clogged causing the Alk to spray out like a finger over a garden hose and causing less than the metered amount to be dosed to the aquarium.
I read a few RC posts about similar issues. The suggestions ranged from cutting the tube on an angle, to diluting the all solution 9:1 with RO water and then dosing 10x the amount of solution. Another suggestion, which seemed the most promising, was to dose the solution as many times as possible, daily, just cutting the dose down. For example, if you dose 20ml a day, then dose 2ml 10x a day as opposed to 10ml 2x a day, resulting in less time for the solution to spend idle at the end of the tube, evaporating or reacting with the moisture in the air.
Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
