So im converting from 2 360we's on my 75 gallon to an AP700. Mixed reef, SPS towards top. What intensity max should i start the AP700 at 15 inches above the water line if i had my 360's maxing at 90% about 12 inches above the water?

Any Kessil users input would be great.

thanks,

I dont have a kessil, but i would start at the lowest point, then increase everyday unitl i reach 50%.
I heard and seen a lot of sps bleached becuase the kessil were on 50% or more the 1st day.

I was under the impression that the ap700 was basically just 2 of the 360s tied together. It pretty much makes sense based on the wattage usage. 90w for 360 vs 185w for ap700.

I think you will definitely have more power coming out at a certain distance from the light because you went from a wide angle spread to a narrow angle one, but you are also moving the unit further from the water line.

Seeing that you were using kessil 360s maxing at 90%, I personally would start around 50% peak, and slowly increase. I would think you will end up peaking at about 75-80% to achieve a similar par rating.

Disclaimer: I'm not a kessil user, thats just what i would do in the situation with my current understanding of those 2 light models.

Thanks for the input, sounds logical. i set my first program for 50% max and ill ramp up from there... I got the light so i can reduce from 3 power cords to 1 and wifi control, hoping all the buggy issues that ive read about during the initial release have been fixed...

wondering about your first impression about the ap700... perhaps you can share an in depth on your feeling on the specific differances between the ap700 and the a360w's? I have a360w and run them at 100% with lots of shadowing on sps corals... I don't think that the a360 are intense enough for sps whats your feeling? how are your sps responding?

The AP700 seems significantly stronger than my 2 360's were. I had the 360's ramping up to 90% and i could tell that a lot of my corals in my mixed reef were upset with the AP700 on 60% mounted 15 inches above waterline. I've dialed it back to ramping up to 50% for now. I'll report back on SPS success/failure... most of my sps are frags so it will take some time to see how they do.

I think an added issue is exremely low nutrients... So that makes the intense light more intense. So. im setting up a QT to add more fish and upping the feeding to try to register some numbers.

I'll take some pictures and report back.

The AP700 is NOT simply 2 of the 360s tied together. I've seen this simply repeated all over the place and it's flat out wrong. I was running 2 a360s over my old 50 breeder, when I moved to the AP700 and started at the same percentage. I bleached everything in a couple of days. Before I even realized what was going on.

I have the AP700 covering a 4 foot 48 x 21 x 21 tank. 18 inches above the water running at 60% I still get 50 par in the far right corners. It took me a while to get up to that percentage.

Check out this video from BRS about the PAR settings and spread of a A360 - https://youtu.be/V7XLgLiA0PM?t=1035

Check out the same video forwarded to the section of about the AP700. Better spread better par numbers - https://youtu.be/V7XLgLiA0PM?t=1272
