I have a 240 gallon reef tank and I wanted to add either the Blue Face or the Majestic angel. Any thoughts if either one is reef safe or is it a hit and miss thing with these fishes? Thanks and any info. is greatly appreciated although the books I read said they are marginal.

Both are extremely iffy in a reef tank, though as each fish has its individual quirks, personality and tastes you might get lucky with one that won't bother corals and clams ( but keep your fingers crossed ;-) ).

I have a Blue-Faced angel in my 300 and he/she nips at the polyps if he's bored. I can't part with him since I had him for over 2 years and he's so beautiful.

I got a 2.5 inches Majestic Angel in mt 400 g tank. I keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed at the same time at least once per day. 6 weeks, so far so good

I had a majestic in my 180 for 4 months, and everything was fine, then my GOB started receding more and more every day. It seems that the Majestic started to like the mucus or slime that the GOB produced! I put the GOB in the refugium, it got better, and the Majestic was traded back to my LFS for a new coral. Too bad, it's a beautiful fish,

My Annularis was well behaved and never bothered anything (SPS and clams), but it did completely destroy a new colony of pink/red zoanthids. But I love it to death, and have learned to live with its quirks...

Thanks for the responses guys. I want to try either angel and I know that if it doesn't work out I probably have to dismantle the whole reef just to get it out.
Ruabatfish2, you said you had yours for 2 years now any serious damage your blue face has done to your corals? Thanks.

Flame angels, like any other, have a good chance of picking at your corals. The best way to find one that doesn't (at first atleast) is to buy one from your local fish store that they have had in with the corals sucessfully. They can and may develop a taste later on though. I have had good luck with my coral beauty (another angel), but have a FO tank to move it to if I did.

HenTer, for most of the 2 years he's been in a live rock only tank. When I moved him to his new 300 a few months ago, he was introduced to some corals. He was curious at first and nipped, but seems to be okay now. I have to choose what and where I place corals in the tank wisely. He seems to pick at the stuff at the very bottom. Higher placement up on the rocks may help. Another thing, I always have a nori clip for him to nibble on and he's well fed.

Well, I think I made out my mind and I'm going to put one in this weekend. If it doesn't work out I just have to move him to my FOWLR tank which is 180 gallons anyway. Thanks for the tips Ruabatfish2 and I will just try that. Like Dieselboy said if you really like it you just find a way for it in your reef. Thanks for the response guys and I really appreciate all the feedbacks.
