Yesterday I noticed that my Green Star Polyps were only 25% open. Today when I got home from work, none of them were open. I called a LFS and ask a guy that I trust what the problem might be. He said somthing had freaked them out. About that time I noticed a red leg hermit crawling over the top of them from the back. He said the hermit probably sucked all of the polyps out and ate them. Is that a probably theory?

Crap. They were beautiful. How depressing! Anyone had a similar experience?

I cant vouch for red leggers, but I have plenty of blue-legs, and when one decides to trek straight across the GSP, it does freak them out, and send them back into the purple mat for awhile... Hope that's all you are experiencing..

nothing can suck out polyps. if anything, a crab would use its claws to grab the polyp and then eat it. the polyps will come back out unless the crab walks all over them again

So far, everything else in the tank looks great. I took all of the hermits and put them in my FO tank just in case.
I'll keep a close eye on the GSPs. Maybe they just decided to sleep in for a couple of days. :)
