Hey all
I want to add a couple of Emerald crabs to my 58 gallon reef. I have aboyt 75 lbs of rock, and want to get this valonia and bubble caulerpa under control. I have a Coral Banded Shrimp, and 2, posibly 1 Sallylightfoot crabs. I say possibly 1 because I see one every day, never 2. I know Sallys can go postal, I have an eye on the one(s) I have, and I know Coral Banded Shrimp are mortal enemies with Arrow Crabs(I have 1st hand exp )
I just want to know if anyone else has a crab/shrimp combo(sounds like a seafood platter, dont it ) like this or if anyone has had problems with these guys in 1 tank together
Thanks

I have housed emerald crabs with sally lightfoot crabs, cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp with no problems.

They will eat almost all kinds of macro algae. When it is gone plan on feeding them or they will starve. IMO in a tank that size you may only need one.

I have a sally and two cleaners - the sally chased the cleaners quite a bit at first, i though they were goners. A year later, they're still alive and the sally seems to have lost interest.

My emeralds pay no attention to my cleaner shrimp or scarlett hermits at all. They do a great job with the small stuff. The real large bubbles, you will need to pull off carefully (without breaking) by hand.

I have several Emerald crabs in my reef and they don't harm any of my other inverts/corals. They just constantly pick and eat algae.

Is it true that there are spores inside the bubbles? I have heard conflicting reports. Cite source of information if possible.

I have zerba hermits, blue leg hermits, scarlet hermits, redleg hermits, sallys, emeralds, fire shrimp and cleaner shrimp all together. I never see my emerald crabs. I see my sallys, my cleaner shrimp and hermits. I don't know if they all get along but I haven't seen any fights..... yet.

I have never had emerald/mithrax crabs because of what I've seen them doing in the stores, and that was eating everything in sight, including other inhabitants. I don't think that you can really trust a mithrax crab to be a vegetarian, but I've never had one, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I speak only from what I've seen in the stores.

Hi Hesaias,

We [i[had[/i] two emerald crabs in our 46 bowfront for about six or seven months with a Sally Lightfoot, and a Coral Banded Shrimp. Never did see any fights among the crabs, or the shrimp... but one day, just all of sudden we didn't see the Emerald crabs any more.

They were always grazing and eating, so it's hard to imagine that they didn't get enough to eat. No telling what could have happened to them... never did find even their shells. Anemone food? Flame Hawkfish? Who knows, but they both disappeared at the same time. Weird!

FWIW,
Connie
