Hope you don't mind my responding again. I have both a purple and a red firefish in different tanks. The purple will eat anything. Brine, marine cuisine, spirulina, flake, bloodworms, you name it. Not at all shy when it comes to eating either. I feed twice a day and all is well. Good luck. (Also; well stated point about the lean towards controversy as opposed to discussion. I've read your posts and progress and you're to be commended on your approach. As for Kirtis, well, it seems he invites abuse; it would be rude not to accept.
I don't see a need to turn off the PH. These guys go right after the food and will follow it around if in a current. As far as not eating for two days, should be no problem, however I'd make sure it eats prior to taking it to your tank so it has something in it's belly over the w/e. I'd also recommend soaking the food in selcon. IMO it helps keep the colors vibrant. JWT
bright colors= happy animal. I think I'll buy him and some Selcon tomorrow. Unfortunately he's at Pet Supermarket, but I am going to my other LFS for some shrimp and test kits tomorrow anyway, they have Selcon. Thanks for helping!
Hate to dissapoint you. He may have have been 16.99, but I think I read 6.99. Usually what I think is right, with my artists' photographic memory and all. Any way I'll tell you fer sure tomorrow evening, if he's still there.
OK he cost $15.00. I dripped my water into the bag he came in for about 3 hours, put him in the water and left my rio 600 off and my 200 on. Two hours later I fed him some brine, and he ate damn near all of it. 3 Hours after that I could not help but feed him some flake dipped in Kent Marine's version of Selcon. He ate and ate. I think he would eat all day if I fed him all day. Anyway I'll mellow out on the feedings (once a day) so far so good. I'm praying his own waste won't kill him. It's funny how when you really pour yourself into this hobby how the knowledge makes you doubt your ability to be able to care for SW animals (and watching so many people fail)
