Hi, I just set up a dosing pump for adding kalk. I let the kalk solution settle and add the clear portion.

However, I have noticed that as the drop of kalk hits the tank water it produces a cloud which then disperses into the current. IS this normal, or am I precipitating something out?

any advice appreciated. BTW my alk is at about 2.5 meq/L.

Thanks

hi.
The clear solution will react with the salt water, and the calcium will precipiate out. That's why they always recommand you to dose it in a high flow area, and use RO-DI water to mix the kalk.

I add my limewater fresh AND milky. I've been doing this for just under 9 years.I do not think you have anything to fear,as your kalk routine sounds like it is just fine.See my 'limewater' reef- click on icon. BTW, I just visited the New England Aquarium.Consider yourself lucky to have that place in your back yard!
