I saw the posts here regarding reef-safe expoxy. Aquamend is the stuff Home Depot carries that's the same as the LFS stuff, right?

I was at Lowes the other day, shopping for some plumbing parts, and thought I'd see if they have the stuff.

They didn't but they do have an epoxy that is safe for use on drinking water lines. It's a cylinder of white clay-like material around a grey core. You break off pieces and mix them up before using.

It sounds remarkably similar to the Aquamend. I was still hesitant about using the stuff though, so I was going to pass. The clerk there gave me a free half-tube of the stuff that had been opened though, so now I'm curious to see if it will work.

I don't want to use anything that's going to hurt my corals or pollute my water, of course.

Can someone that has the Aquamend stuff from HD take a look at the ingredients and compare them to this product?

It's "Epoxy Putty" manufactured by Oatey.

Ingredients:
Expoxy Resin 25058-38-6, Tris Phenol (dimethyl aminomethyl) 90-72-2, Magnesium Silicate Hydrate 13807-98-6, Polymetric Mercaptan (trade secret), Zinc Sulfide 1314-98-3

I have no idea what the numbers mean, and the chemical names are mostly Greek to me. Is this product similar to Aqua-mend?

Thanks,

IMO AquaStick epoxy putty is reef safe and easy to use. If you stack your rock carefully epoxy is not neccessary. If you are needing to glue a frag of coral, I had a frag of xenia glued to a small piece of rock with crazy glue. The xenia has trippled in size within a couple of weeks. AquaStick epoxy putty is available at any LFS. I would think about it what if you want to change the formation of your rock? It will happen trust me.

Happy reefing

I woun dup finding it at Home Depot. Ran about $3.

I'm hoping to use it to move my forest of Xenia off of my rocks and onto my back wall, a couple pieces at a time.
