Blenny/Goby Recommendation

What would you recommend for a small 20G tank? I have a 60 in the garage that I've been meaning to set up but I might wait because of a possible move in the next couple months. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I like the black fin goby (pair) with a pistol shrimp, or a bi-color blenny for a tank that size.

I've never heard of the black fin goby. Could you give more details as to why it should be paired w/ a pistol shrimp? Thanks.

I've had a bi-color in the past and was hoping of trying something new. For those of you that havevn't had a bi-color, I highly recommend them. They are VERY hardy and got a fun personality!

You didn't find it 'cause I'm an idiot. I meant a Blackray goby, also called a Highfin goby. I combined the names. They are symbiotic with the Alpheus randalli shrimp. You can find them on page 355 of Scott Michael's Marine Fishes pocket guide. I know there has been a post on them either here or reefcentral within the past six months.

I kinda like those barnacle blennies also. But I have no experience with them. There were some posts on them about three months ago also. If you're not familiar with them give them a search.

Haha. It's okay. I saw a pic of the blackfin goby

and it looks pretty cool. Has the same thing going on as the firefish. Also like how it doesn't get too big in size. The barnacle blenny IMO looks scary. Would you happen to know anything bout the red head goby? Nor that's a cool looking fish. Don't know much bout it though. Did a search but didn't find much. Thanks!

A redlip blenny I've seen but I don't know what a redhead is. How about a Randall's goby or a yellow watchman goby? My next tank is gonna feature a pair of gobies with symbiotic shrimp if I can find the right mated pair. I'm more into interesting non-ranging fish versus aesthetics. Guess that's why I like blennys/gobies.

I myself have 2 yellow clown gobies...very intersting fish and stay small (both mine are about an inch or so), bright yellow, with pinkish cheeks.

I have a citron goby. He is the coolest fish in my tank. He has so much character and he has a little sucker between his pectoral fins to help him perch on rocks and corals and even the glass. I have also had a red headed goby (gobiosoma punctulatus) and they are pretty cool although I haven't had much luck with them. I have had 2 and both got ick and died wiping out other fish as well. I also have 2 firefish gobies that are kinda cool but they are totally mellow fish and everything spooks them. Its kinda fun watching them twitch about in the water column though.

I have a diamond goby and a lawnmower blenny in my 180. I love the blenny but the goby will that's another story. I have some coral on the substrate and he loves to cover them up with sand. I have to move sand everyday or move the coral somewhere else. The blenny doesn't bother anything.

Here are a couple pictures of the citron gobies(planning to add two of these to my 120g reef in the next 5 months)and the redhead goby, if I can make it work. If it does not work go to flying fish express and look under gobies for the citron and in collectors corner for the redhead.

I have a lawnmower blenny that I like a lot in my sps tank. I have a citron goby that is a cool fish, it just sits on the glass waiting for me to give it food. It started to pick at my sps so I moved it to my girlfriends 15g (tied to 60g via sump) and it is fine in there, loves to sit in the colt coral, eats out of your hand. I had a clown goby that was cool too but it got ick and died. One of the coolest gobies I have seen is a four-wheel drive goby, aka crab-eye goby. My friend has one in his 33g and it is the coolest looking fish! It is a sand shifter but he says that it is fine in his sps/clam tank. He also has a red headed goby in there that he likes. Check out the 4-wheel drive goby though, I am going to get one for my 60g. ps, they are small.

Okay guys. Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to with the citron goby. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the forktail blenny. I love their colors but just haven't seen them around that much. The one time that I did see one, I bought it home and it died in a day.

He was really scrawny but I thought I could nurse him back to health.
