my 60 gal. has finally cycled and i would like to put some snails in there. however, i did notice some negative comments about snails. if you have some in your tank, what kind do you have? thanks.

I've got astrea snails in mine. Good all around cleaner for glass and rocks. Just be aware that if you also put blue legged hermits in there as well, they will make a quick meal of any astrea snail that falls on it's back and can't right itself (they're known for doing this).

I also have the standard snails and some s. varia. They seem to be alright and haven't had any problems (other than falling on their backs occasionally). However, I would like to find someone with Dove Shelled snails (Euplica Versicolor synonym: Pyrene Scripta). The Sprung invertebrate book lists them as being good cleaners and breeders. No one seems to have any though. <sigh>

Too many types

. They include Strombus gigas, alatus, maculatus (queen conch, fighting conch, don't know common name), Stomatella varia, cap snails, cowrie, nassarius, 3-4 trochus sp including tiger, turbo and astrea, cap snails, limpets. Those are just the ones I added on purpose. Heck, the more the merrier
