About a week ago, my husband was helping me with the tank and took a piece of live rock out of the tank and laid it on the top of the tank inside the canopy where we both forgot about it. When I discovered it it was totally dried up and I left it up there thinking I would tell and we'd decide what to do about it. Without my knowing it, he put it in the sump a couple days ago. The question! What will happen? Will it poison the tank if everything was dead on the rock and it was very light in weight? Should I take it out??Will welcome all advice!!

Leave it in. It will eventually become "live" again. I think the risk of contaminating the tank is low at this point.

I agree, should be no harm. Just how big a chunk are we talking? anything under 15lbs probably isn't going to affect system much at all. 99% of rock you buy at LFS is shipped to them dry and either you or LFS cures. There should still be lots of beneficial life stll in rock. Sump was best place for reintroduction of the rock. All your beneficial critters will have the chunk of rock back to "live" in no time.

I agree with Ernie. Whatever damage done has been done. If it is only one piece, I wouldn't be too worried.

I would add that you check your ammonia level just to be on the safe side.
