Yup. After battling nitrates for a bit I decided to remove the bioballs and fill it up. I just wished I had saved my money and put a 20 gallon under my stand instead. So now I have a wet-wet filter

Well, the thing is I also have a 110 gallon fish-only salt tank that I could transfer the wet/dry to, and then build a sump/refugium for the reef. It seems as if this is the way I should go, but I'm weighing options & costs on it right now.

Peace,

Chip

If I could afford the room (this is in my 54 bow), I would do what you are considering. This is a quick drawing I made for my 100 gallon. I am using a 40 gallon long, but have yet to complete the project. I since did away with the bio-balls idea as the first chamber will be for a skimmer.

yup,
over a period of time i removed half of the bio balls and replaced the skimmer with a turbofloater multi. it sits where the balls go and the pump for it is in the first compartment. i replaced the balls around the skimmer to stop the waterfall sound and will slowly remove these. eventually they will be totaly replaced with live rock. the skimmer fits perfectly.
it all seems to work better. this skimmer actually works. very quiet also.
