I wouldn't think your fish would bother the shrimp, and I think you would only need one (your tank probably only has the capacity to house a single shrimp, to boot). I would think he'd munch away until they were gone, and keep ahead of them pretty easily.

WOW Thanks for such a speedy reply. I will go get one tomorrow if I can find anywhere around here that sells them. I would hate to have to mail order one shrimp.

Your fish wont munch on peppermint shrimp. From what ive been told, these are a type of cleaner shrimp in nature. so even big fish wouldnt munch on peppermints. certain fish will, like puffer fish though. You would only need 1 shrimp for a 12 gallon. i have a 10 gallon, bought one shrimp and it ate all the aptasia within 1 1/2 days. it had trouble finding the one at the very top of the aquarium. I've read that some pepps dont like aptasia and that some might eat polyps, but i havent had that problem. be sure to get the right species. some other shrimps are sold as "peppermint shrimps"

Pepps. usually eat aiptasia and usually don't eat expensive corals. Note my use of the word "usually." I think you should try everything under the sun to get rid of the aiptasia by hand--concentrated kalk, covering them with glue, pulling them out, etc. In a 12 gallon system it would take just a second to do it yourself--I guarantee a lot quicker than it would be to try and net a shrimp that got an appetite for something you happen to like. Introduce a pepp shrimp and you introduce a liability.
