I love my Powder Blue Tang. I call it Madame.
Recently, Brian, the flame angel in Madame's tank, was found outside the tank being played with by our cat. I presumed it jumped, found its way out of the crack in the hood (since rectified), and these things happen.
So, I set out to replace the flame and I wanted something different. I selected a Majestic Angel and a Coral Beauty. Well, upon placing them in the tank tonight, I found out why the flame jumped. Madame was brutal. Whipping the new fish, nipping fins, totally intimidating both newcommers. I tapped the glass, and snaped the water. Madame was relentless.
Both fish looked great upon entry, but were rapidly declining.
I grabbed my nets, and placed Madame in a smaller tank with a trigger, wrasse, and a bicolor. By this time, after acclimation, everyone in this tank is asleep.
The new angels are slowly recovering but I feel terrible to subject them to such a terrible experience.
I got my fish through mail order and I tried to call around to consult with staff at the usual places and I thought I had a good plan.
I only recalled later, in the midst of Madame's rage, that someone did comment when I purchased Madame that it should be placed in the tank last. Well, it was now placed in the smaller tank last, and now I will have to buy a larger tank to house this group.
I just hope tomorrow does not present a repeat of today and that everyone "just gets along".
For those of you who have stable tanks (like I did yesturday), think twice about your next addition and appreciate the piece that you have.
I know I do when I have it.
