Good Morning, I have a AGA 90 gallon FOWLR, my first question is that I get far too much green hair algae. I have well water so I'm assuming that this is the problem.
so what is the recommended remedy? a RI/DI?

If so what brand and size should I get?

or will a uv steriliver fis this sort of thing?


My next question is what stand is a good one to buy the chip board AGA looks like its going to give way at any time, so I want a real wood stand. Are the AGA modern series any good?

It is a good bet that the well water is the cause of your problems.

Also, how long are your lights on? If your photoperiod is 16 to 18 hours, that is too long, IMHO. Decrease the photoperiod by 15 minutes a day until you reach the 12 to 14 hour range.

An RO/DI would solve your water problem. I have a 3-stage Dolphin unit from AquaFX. I got the 50 gallon per day unit and am very happy. It produces enough water for my needs.

I do not know the price difference, but you may want to consider a 100 GPD unit.

Another board member, Eboman, bought the 4-stage unit from AquaFX at the same time I bought my 3-stage unit. I know he is very happy with his unit.

I hear Spectra Pure RO/DI is one of the best. I have a 50 gpd unit that came with a home water softener (Rainsoft) and has a 3 gallon tank to store water in. I got a float from LFS who I think got form spectra and I plumbed up line from tank to auto-top-off. Only draw back is takes a day to collect water in buckets for water change. Lots of folks get a 30 gallon plastic trash can and use that as resivor and plumb a float control electric switch that will turn on a powerhead to pump water into sump and auto top off that way.

Well water likely has I think silica or some nutrient that algae feeds on.
